Hello there! I’m Bree, one half of the paranormal romance
writing duo of Moira Rogers, and I’m on a wild and crazy blog tour talking about
dangerous men and the women who love them. And I’m not just talking about their
heroines—I mean all the women who
love them, including those of us who read & write about them! That’s why I’m here with an excerpt from Keeping Company With
Bloodhounds, a book that gives all the dirty details about those
dangerous warriors. (Even if it only exists in the fictional world of the
Bloodhounds.)
One of my favorite
parts about writing the bloodhounds series is that we have the opportunity to
move around to different places within the world and show what life is like both
along the border and on the wrong side of it.
In Archer's Lady we explored life in a down
left to die. As the vampires creep East,
the United States has been forced to choose their battles when it comes to who
is worth saving and who will be left to the vampires. Sometimes those decisions are more about
politics and resources than anything else, but that doesn't help those left on
the border.
In our next book, Diana's Hound, we'll have our first
chance to travel past the border, deep into vampire territory. And there's one place everyone talks
about...
CHAPTER
THIRTEEN - THE DEADLANDS: IMPORTANT LANDMARKS
Of all the fabled vampire
cities, Eternity is surely by far the subject of the most fevered speculation
and scandalized gossip. Situated deep in vampire territory, it rivals New York
and Boston in luxury and refinement, but it's not the opulence of its homes or
the undead nature of its residents that inspires such awe, but rather the rumor
that its builders reached through time to recreate the splendor of a world long
since vanished.
It is true that the city
bears no small resemblance to Venice at its zenith. This I have on good
authority, as it was related to me by a bloodhound of my acquaintance, one who
had spent many months within the city limits on a mission of some secrecy.
He also warned me quite
sternly that it is no place for a lady, no matter her experience in the ways of
the world beyond the border. In this, dear reader, I must repeat his warning
alongside my own entreaty for caution and good sense. While a chance to walk
the pages of history is indeed rare, in Eternity the opportunity often comes at
too high a price.

Archer’s Lady
Accused of betraying the Bloodhound Guild, Archer’s only chance to regain the trust of his fellow hounds is to earn it–one dangerous job at a time. Crystal Springs may be the worst yet. The town has been deserted by all but the poor and the desperate, yet the vampires stalking the edges of the settlement haven’t closed in for the kill. Question is, why?Grace Linwood, professional liar, has been hiding under the guise of a border schoolteacher for so long, she’s almost fallen for her own con. The frontier was supposed to be her chance at a respectable life, but now the cowardly part of her wants to flee. When Archer catches her considering a run for safety, she knows it’s only a matter of time before he sees through her charade.
They become reluctant allies in the quest to uncover the mysteries of Crystal Springs, but every unraveled knot ties them closer together. They both know their pasts are too shattered to hope for a future–until their investigation uncovers a secret. One that could make betraying the Guild their only path to redemption.
Warning: Contains a partly reformed con-artist heroine with a bruised heart and a mostly retired bank-robbing hero with a weary soul. Also included: vampire schemes, mad scientist plots, an alarming amount of dirty talk and some borderline-criminal bedroom antics in an alternate Wild West.
