Shameless Summer Giveaway ~ Day 4

Blood of the Wicked (Dark Mission, #1)

Blood of the Wicked by Karina Cooper ~~
When the world went straight to hell, humanity needed a scapegoat to judge, to blame . . . to burn.

As an independent witch living off the grid, Jessie Leigh has spent her life running, trying to blend in among the faceless drudges in the rebuilt city. She thought she was finally safe, but now she's been found in a New Seattle strip club—by a hard-eyed man on a mission to destroy her kind.

A soldier of the Holy Order, Silas Smith believes in the cause: trawling the fringes of society for the murderous witches who threaten what's left of the world. Forced into a twisting web of half-truths and lies, he has to stay close to the most sensuous and electrifying woman he has ever seen and manipulate her into leading him tot he witch he has to kill: her brother. Silas doesn't know that Jessie's his enemy, only that he wants her, needs her, even as he lies to her... and must protect her until his final breath.

Today's topic is a little different ~

I love Karina Cooper on Twitter!  I had never read her, and I went and bought her books because she is just so darn funny & cute on Twitter.

So guess what?   Social Media is totally paying off for her!

Do you follow authors on FB and Twitter?  If they make you laugh or just seem someone you'd like to be friends with, will you go buy their books?

Do you ever NOT buy someones book because of the way they are on
Social Media?  <plz don't mention names!>
Do you ever get turned OFF by the promo?
Is there a line they cross into TOO MUCH?

<Comment for a chance to WIN ~ open to everyone!!>

  1. I usually follow authors on social media after reading or wanting their booksrarely before. That wouldprobably be different if I were a bloger and not just a reader.

I am very open minded so almost anything goes!

  2. I do follow some authors on Twitter and yes I have gotten turned off by how some authors behave on Twitter or on Facebook. I think it's great to promo your book but there is a fine line between being good promo and feeling as if someone is trying to shove a book down your throat. I think that you can start promoting a book about 1.5 months before it's release and do it on blogs, Facebook and Twitter but starting more than 1.5 months before the release is really too much. Anyway that's my five cents worth...lol

  3. I do follow authors on social media because I think not only is it a great way to find out about their books and promotions and especially upcoming releases, it is a great way to find out more about them as a person. Just like anything else the way someone treats you or acts in general leaves a big impact on you and the things that in this case you buy!! For me if I truly loved an author's books but she/he was a real B*tch on social media-I would still continue to buy their books I just wouldn't pay attention to them on Twitter or Facebook. The promo thing doesn't bother me as long as it is handled the right way. If an author is just constantly promoting their book but not giving any other content or interaction then it is a turn off -- especially if they are constantly posting - check out my blah blah blah - it can get to be a little much. Anyway, thanks for the chance to win and I love your blog. old follower. Have a great day!! :)

  4. No, I haven't come across that but I don't spend much time on those sites. I usually pop in for 10 to 15 mins then pop off. If not I will be there for hours and get nothing done!

  5. I do follow authors on social medial. In fact, I saw a not so nice comment from an author and now I will never read her books. I found it to be offense to young mothers, which is what I am.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  6. I do tend to follow all my favorite authors either on facebook or twitter usually because they entertain me. I have left both when they spout politics or religion or try to sell me something every day.

  7. "Interaction" with an author in some way that lets you know about them can absolutly help me decide to read them. I follow authors on FB & Twitter, and some have their own blogs; I also enjoy live internet chats with authors. Found a lot that I really enjoy.

  8. I do follow a lot of authors on facebook. I don't typically let it decide if I am buying their books. There is one author that I get surprised by (not in a good way) because I think they are a little too high on themselves. I will not mention any names but there is one author that I have decided to NOT buy because of online conduct... but it is very rare! thanks for the contest

  9. My whole reason of having facebook and twitter is to follow authors. Anymore to hear about new releases is to follow them on social media. You learn the ondits way before it's posted on their sites.

And yes, thanks to social media I anticipated one author's debut book.

And yes, I have had a few authors turn me off thanks to the way they behave and interact on twitter. So far there has been one or two where it got to the point where I have no interest on buying them and I cleared out my collection of their books.

  13. I love following authors all the ways I can, but I realize some of them are not as we expect them. As much as I would love to read a book, if the attitude isn't right, I would not not feel that much encourage to read her or his book.
    Thanks for the chance!

  15. I have looked an author's work up because of their online personality. I have also been completely turned off from an author because of the astronomical amount of self promoting they do. I am all about getting your work out there but not to the point that you push it at me every chance you get *shrug*.

  16. I have gotten totally turned off by a few authors that didn't know how to stop pimping their books. I have had a few authors on Twitter that would DM their book promo. I unfollowed them. I won't buy their books. It is called Social Media for a reason. If you don't interact with your followers and only promote your books all day, what is the point?

  17. I follow a few authors that I really like on facebook, but I don't think I'm totally into the author-social-media thing, and follow mostly for the book updates.

  19. on social networks and I follow some that I have not read yet but really want to. I love it when authors interact and talk to their followers and those are the ones I visit often. I don't unfollow because of drama, unless it was directed at me :)
