The Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet
Blog Tour
Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet
ISBN: 978-1250014467
The fourth in this fun and sexy New York Times bestselling paranormal series: “If you enjoy Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum, you will certainly enjoy Charley Davidson!” —Suspense Magazine
Sometimes being the grim reaper really is that. Grim. And since Charley’s last case went so awry, she has taken a couple months off to wallow in the wonders of self-pity. But when a woman shows up on her doorstep convinced someone is trying to kill her, Charley has to force herself to rise above. Or at least get dressed. She quickly realizes something is amiss when everyone the woman knows swears she’s insane. The more they refute the woman’s story, the more Charley believes it.
In the meantime, the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, has been cleared of all charges. He is out of prison and out of Charley’s life, as per her wishes and several perfectly timed death threats. But his absence has put a serious crimp in her sex life. While there are other things to consider, like the fact that the city of Albuquerque has been taken hostage by an arsonist, Charley is having a difficult time staying away. Especially when it looks like Reyes may be involved. Just when life was returning to normal, Charley is thrust back into the world of crime, punishment, and the devil in blue jeans.
An Interview with Darynda Jones
AND Uncle Bob!!
Hey, Darynda!
Welcome to Mimmi's Musings!!
I'm so thrilled to have you ~~ I LOVE Charley!!
I love her too. She is such a great character!
I like to listen to them in Audio, and have to tell
you that Lorelei King is the perfect fit for your amazing writing! You so scored there!
How did that pairing come about? Did you get to
choose who narrated you books?
I didn’t get to choose, but I can say in all
honesty, Lorelei has been my favorite narrator for years. If they’d asked, I
would have chosen her. So when the producer wrote and told me who was
narrating, I almost fell out of my chair! How could I be so lucky?
Does Charley sound like you thought she would when
you wrote her?
She does, much more now than she did at first. It
took a while for me to find my footing with her. I knew her in my head, but
getting that on paper was a different story.
When I was yet AGAIN listening to this series,
getting myself ready for the release of Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet, I
couldn't help thinking that one of the things I love best about your writing is
your consistency with the little things...like how Charley always remembers to
greet Mr. Wong, or to mention Amber, her assistant Cookie's daughter, or to
mention Rockets sister Blue, or tons of other tiny things that some authors
tend to let drop off. How do you keep track of all those little details?
It’s funny because sometimes I forget and have to
go back and layer that stuff in. I hate to admit this, but I’ve forgotten poor
Mr. Wong more than once. He’s just so quiet. But I love these characters so
much that I always bring them in somehow, even if they aren’t a part of that
story, per se.
Keeping track is a bit more complicated. Mostly
because I do it all in my head. That is a dangerous thing to do. I need to just
make a list of people that must show up in each book. Hey! I might just do
that. It would save me time.
So this series is amazing...I did mention that,
didn't I? Is this the first you've written? Because, from the writing, I'd say
you've been at it for a long, long time.
Thank you!!! First Grave was actually the third
manuscript I’d completed, though I’ve started hundreds. The first was a
historical romance and the second a YA, which also sold and which also has the
amazing Lorelei King narrating. And let me tell you, she is incredible! This
might sound weird, but I think the audiobook is actually better than the
printed book. I’m not sure how to explain it other than Lorelei just adds that
special spark to the text. And I stole her name when I wrote it. The main
character’s name is Lorelei McAlister.
How'd you come up with Charley? <I love the
name, btw! Charley Davidson!>
Funny you should ask. Charley Davidson’s name was
originally Harley Davidson. My editor didn’t think it was as cool as I did.
Haha. So I changed it to Charley. It’s almost the same!
I loved how Mistress Marigold described Charley
& Reyes, like magnets that are pulled towards one another...but can there
ever BE a happy ending for these two? That's a rhetorical...how many
books DO you have planned for this series?
LOL, right now it’s open-ended, so there’s just no
telling, but I THINK I would like to try them together for a while. Other brave
writers have done this (had a couple together throughout a same-character
series) and done well with it. I am thinking of Jeaniene Frost’s Cat and Bones
and JD Robb’s Eve and Rourke. Oh! Also, the Soulless series by Gail Carriger.
I’m sure there are many more, but I am considering putting Charley and Reyes
together and see what comes of it. You can still have tons of conflict. Just
look at any marriage on the planet.
I can't tell you how excited I am for the release
of Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet, and to find out how Charley is going to be
dealing some of the things she's just realizing about herself...anything
tidbits you'd like share with us?
And I heard you were bringing Charley's Uncle Bob
<otherwise known as UB> by with you today, and that he was up to
answering a few Q's of his own!
Hey, UB!! Welcome!
So...what's up with you and Cookie? You ever
going to get the nerve to ask her out?
I have no idea what you’re talking about. Did she
say something? Do you think she’s interested in me?
Do you ever find yourself totally awed by Charley's
abilities?
Way more often than not. Charley is incredible and
I’m proud to know her. I learn more about her all the time and I truly am in
awe of her. But back to Cookie, do you think I should ask her out?
(YES! UB should ask Cookie out!)
Have you figured out exactly WHAT she is yet?
I’ve heard grumblings containing the words grim and
reaper, but I’m not sure how accurate that can be. I’m not sure there is such a
thing, and she doesn’t even own a black robe or a scythe as far as I know.
What is UP Charley's Dad, Uncle Bob? You
gotta take care of that, before it totally messes with Charley's karma.
I’m looking into having him committed.
Unfortunately, I don’t think I can do that legally, but I’m just not sure what
he is thinking. He hasn’t said anything to me, but I think he’s been sick and I
think he’s worried about what will happen to Charley if he doesn’t make it. He
feels guilty. He thinks it’s his fault Charley got into the PI business in the
first place, because she used to solve crimes for him like she does me. But he
just needs to get over it before I have to get him over it.
I love that you are there for Charley...well, even
though she DOES pay you back by solving cases for you and all, it's totally
cool you've always got her back!!
I’m just glad I can do what little I do for her.
She’s special. We’ve always known that, but I think there’s more to the story.
I think she has a bigger destiny.
You and Cook would be a great couple!
No, really, did she say anything?
Thanks for stopping by, Charley & UB!
