And she's drinking copious amounts of caffeine to stay awake because, every time she closes her eyes, she sees him: Reyes Farrow, the parthuman, part-supermodel son of Satan. Yes, she did imprison him for all eternity, but come on. How is she supposed to solve a missing persons case, deal with an ego-driven doctor, calm her curmudgeonly dad, and take on a motorcycle gang hellbent on murder when the devil's son just won't give up?

 

OK, I'll bet ya'll have figured out that I'm an Audio book junkie by now, huh? 

And this, my friends, is one of the BEST series I've ever listened to.  Hands down.  The writing is excellent, and the narration is perfection...they go together like peanut butter & jelly.  Like butter on toast...like...well, you get the picture! 

The perfect fit, I tell 'ya. 

 

Anywho, here we have PI Charley Davidson, also known as The Grim Reaper...she's on the hunt for a missing wife in this, the third book in this series, and trying to keep herself from falling asleep so she can avoid the Son of Satan, aka Reyes Farrow ~ who she just happened to have bound to his earthly body in the last book. 

 

If you haven't read any of the series, it might sound a little out there...and OK, it is, but Darynda Jones writes it in such a way that it's...NOT.  It's totally buyable, and you can put yourself in Charley's every day life.  She's got a little bit of ADD (ok, more than a little!) but other than being THE Grim Reaper, she's just a normal kinda chick...but one that makes you laugh and laugh. 

 

I resisted this series for a while, I have NO idea why, but when I finally started listening to it...I listened to them ALL back to back to back in just a few days.  I couldn't QUIT!  This is my second time listening to this one, getting ready for book four...and just have to share my love for this series! 

 

Reyes is the complete anti hero...you're never quite sure if he's good or bad.  And Charley's not sure, either...which makes it that much sexier!  And Darynda is AWESOME at throwing at red herrings and totally fooling you when you think you've got it all figured out...

 

I have to classify this as Urban Fantasy w/ a romantic thread running through it...fans of Karen Marie Moning's Fae series will love these books. 

 

I have to tell you they make me LOL so much...Charley is a riot!  And Darynda leads each chapter w/ a little saying, or a quote from a T shirt that will make you crack up...

 

"I used to be atheist...then I realized I was God"  ... I try to remember them because they are so GREAT!!

 

DO get these books!!
