WILL HE HELP PROTECT HER...
Carrie Ward understands dangerous men, and she's got the scars to prove it. These days, the Special Investigations Group detective saves her risk taking for the job. But when she's asked to pursue a high-profile serial killer, she'll have to join forces with the last man she wants to depend on--Jase Tyler, an ace senior detective who's as reckless as she is cautious. And despite her best intentions, the sparks begin to fly.

OR DRAW A KILLER FROM THE SHADOWS?
As Carrie and Jase race to try to save the next victim, the passion that simmers between them ignites. But a cunning killer at the top of his game is challenging Carrie to play to the very end. Now all she can count on are her instincts-and Jase, the one man daring enough to keep her safe....

Carrie Ward has held many positions of strength throughout her life, and being a member of the elite SIG Team, a 5 member unit not unlike the FBI, is only one more prestigious step...but Carrie struggles every day to prove herself.  As the only woman in the unit, she's of course going to have that hurdle, but having been recently been hurt, and with what she thinks of as something she brought herself, it makes her not only struggling against those she works WITH, but herself.

Jase Tyler has ALWAYS been attracted to Carrie...he's somewhat of a playboy, and we met him the previous SIG book, Shades of Desire, which I loved...so it's no surprise that while Carrie is totally attracted to Jase, she's leery of letting her guard down around him.  Even while she's hot for him.  But once she's hurt, Jase just kind of slips in past her guard...and doesn't that make it hurt just that much more when he surprises her by horning in on her lead on a serial case?

I love Virna's writing, and the first book in this series was SO great...but I'm going to admit I struggled with Carrie.  She seemed like her own worst enemy at times.  She threw up more obstacles for herself than those around her did...and I really did love the sexy Jase, and thought he was looking out for Carrie's, and the teams ,best interests, not just his own.

I love the sexy scenes, and total intenseness that Virna DePaul writes with...and whether I'm loving them or not, the characters are grabbing me by the throat & owning me while I'm reading them. I look forward to the next book in the series...and more sexy scenes from Ms. DePaul!
