I'm so excited about #DFRAT!

Starting June 1st, Book Binge will be hosting a Digital First Read-a-Thon with Tracy’s Place, The Book Reading Gals and Novel Thoughts. We’re super thrilled to be cross-promoting all things digital first with some fabulous book bloggers.

For the entire month of June, we challenge each and every single reader out there to read as many digital first e-books as you can. There isn’t a set number of books you have to read. There isn’t a set list of authors that you must read. For that part of the challenge, you set the rules. The only rule we have is that the books read for this challenge have to have been published as an e-book FIRST.
We’re not talking about the e-books that are being re-released right now that were apart of print anthologies back in the day. We’re talking about books like Slow Summer Kisses by Shannon Stacey, Crazy on You by Rachel Gibson or Room for Love by Sophie Pembroke. All books that were released to the public as e-books first.

There will be heaps of guest authors stopping by all four blogs involved with the Digital First Read-a-Thon so really, stop by and visit us. We’ll have giveaways, excerpts and a whole bunch of other goodies so it should be a good time. Load up those e-readers everybody, we’re going to have loads of fun come June 1st.

Dark Warriors

There once was a land of legend, of lore. A land filled with magic and hope. Though the Celtic tribes warred with each other, all of that came to an end with the arrival of Rome to their shores.
The mighty kingdom of Rome, intent on ruling the world, slowly worked their way across Britain. Until they reached the highlands and encountered a foe like none other. Despite their victories, nothing the Celts did could make Rome leave their precious land.
With no other recourse, the Celts turned to their trusted advisors and allies, the Druids.
Respected and revered, the Druids were like any society. Their magic came in the purest form from the earth, but there were ones who wanted more – more power, more control...more of everything.
Inevitably, the Druids split into two sects. The mie stayed true to their magic and continued to heal the sick and offer their knowledge to tribal leaders. The drough, however, chose human sacrifices and black magic to grow their power.
It was the drough who had the answers for the Celts.
The mie cautioned the clan leaders against using black magic, but the Celts knew their hold against the Romans was waning. So they allowed their greatest warriors to step forward and the drough to cast their spells and call up the gods long buried in Hell - gods that once ruled the earth with brutal tactics and violent ends.
But they were the only ones who could defeat Rome.
The gods, freed at last, eagerly answered the Druids call and bound themselves into each tribe’s fiercest warrior. Those warriors, with the aide of the gods inside them, attacked every Roman they encountered. Battle after battle ensued, until, finally, Rome abandoned Britain.
Yet the gods were still thirsty for blood, still hungry for battle. With the Romans gone, the warriors turned on each other...and anyone that got in their way. The rivers and land ran red with the blood of the Celts as death permeated the air.
The drough finding their magic useless joined forces with the mie. Yet, nothing the two sects did could put the gods back in their prison in Hell. The gods refused to relinquish their hold on the warriors, growing stronger with each heartbeat, each kill, until the warrior was no longer the man he had once been.
A gathering of Druids was called. It was unlike anything that had occurred since before the split. Magic pulsed over the land as they put aside their differences and struggled to find a way to help the Celts. But no amount of magic they called up freed the warriors.
Unable to send the gods back, the Druids combined magic and black magic to create a spell that bound the gods, in effect freezing them inside their hosts. The warriors returned to the men they once were and resumed their lives having no memory of the atrocities they had committed.
Yet, inside each warrior, the gods waited. With every generation the gods moved from warrior to warrior, passed down and forever a part of the family’s bloodline.
And so the Warriors were born.
The Druids, knowing what they had created, knowing what would happen in the future, stayed near the Warriors. Forever keeping watch. Even when their faith, the very thing they were, caused them to hide for fear of being killed, they had no choice but to watch. All of mankind was at risk.
The true story of Rome’s departing of Britain was forgotten. It passed into legend and myth amongst the Celts with each retelling of the story. Only the Druids knew the truth.
Then one drough found a hidden scroll. More power hungry than anydrough before her, Deirdre set out to unbind the gods and control them. Thereby giving her the army she needed to rule the world and become a goddess before whom all men would tremble.
The scroll, however, only listed one tribe – the MacLeods.
Deirdre turned her eye to the MacLeod clan. There, she would begin....

Donna Grant's Dark Warriors & Dark Sword series...

For those of you who follow The Dark Sword series ~ you are in for a sweet treat w/ Midnight's Master! 

And for those of you who are new to Donna's books ~

you are in for an awesome new world, and let me make it clear that you can pick up this series w/ Midnight's Master and go forward.  Donna has clearly and neatly made the transition from historical to present day in Midnight's Master, and for those of you who don't wish to read the historicals, she brings you totally up to date in this book so you can pick it up and start the series w/ out missing a beat.  Personally, I think you're going to want to go back read those Warriors (because they ROCK) but you don't have or need to read them to feel totally up to date.  I've gotten so many Q's about this from people who aren't readers of historical I just wanted  to make clear as I can ~ I feel confident you'll not miss a thing. 

And that you're going to LOVE this book!

Dark Sword & Dark Warriors series – what’s what?

I’ve had a ton of questions about the Dark Warriors series and why I ended the Dark Sword series. The last thing I want to do is confuse readers. So, I’ll attempt to make things clear without posting any kind of spoilers for those who might not have gotten caught up on the series.
First, let me thank all of you who joined me on the journey of my Highland Warriors and their Druid heroines. I so love the world of my Warriors and Druids, and without y’all I wouldn’t have been able to continue to discover these amazing characters.
You can read The Beginning for the Dark Sword series as well as learn the reading order, find wallpaper, and watch the amazing book trailers by clicking here.

The Dark Sword series does end with DARKEST HIGHLANDER. Sort of. The story line picks right back up with the first Dark Warriors book (Logan’s) MIDNIGHT’S MASTER followed the very next month by MIDNIGHT’S LOVER (Ian’s). From now on the Dark Warriors books will be released back to back every four months!
So yes, the series name has changed, but that’s because of everything that happens leading up to DARKEST HIGHLANDER as well as what happens at the end of the book.

I’ve gotten some emails regarding DARKEST HIGHLANDER. I know some of you are upset, and I apologize for that. I follow my characters wherever they take me, and most times I’m as surprised as you are by what happens. I didn’t understand why the characters had led me to such a scene, and it wasn’t until late in 2011 that it all came together and I finally understood why it had to happen.

There is so many great things coming in the Dark Warriors series that I’m bursting to tell y’all. But I hate spoilers, so I’m going to keep it to myself. All I can say is be prepared for a roller coaster ride that will leave you reeling!

But that’s not all. My publisher asked me to come up with another series that would be heavily connected to the DS/DW world. I, of course, jumped at the chance. The first Dark Kings books will be special eNovellas released in July, August, and September of this year.

You’ll begin to see mention of these new guys in the Dark Warriors series and vice versa. It isn’t too long before the guys from both series get together, and lord help the ladies when they do!

Lethal Rider by Larissa Ione ~

Thanatos, or Death, the most deadly of the Four Hosemen of the Apocolypse, has been kept in a stasis for the last 8 month by his brother Ares, or War, and his sister Limos, or Famine ~ ever since he'd lost his virginity to the Aegis Demon Slayer Regan Cooper.  For when Than becomes angry, Death becomes him, and he rages through people and towns without thought, only anger. For the thousands of years he's lived, so it's been.  But they'd always thought that his virginity was his Seal, therefore Than had always avoided sex...but when he rises from his forced stasis, the first thing he wants is Regan's death...the next is HER. 

Reagan would do anything for the Aegis, and that they'd asked her to get pregnant w/ Death's child to help stop the Apocolypse?  She was totally on board w/ that.  Whatever it takes.  Except when Than kidnaps her from Aegis headquarters, and she's forced to spend time with time, to realize that this warrior has been treated unfairly by ALL of them, she's forced to face that what she did was wrong...and to spend time getting to know Than. 

I LOVED this book ~ Than and Regan have so many issues between them, not the least of which is that she pretty much raped him at the end of the last book to become pregnant.  They are both flawed, and hard headed and determined that they are right.  I really liked how it came through that they learned as they went along, about each other, and about the baby she carries.  And while this book is fairly serious in tone, you still get those snort, giggle and LOL moments that Larissa Ione is famous for...her Heroes totally rock, and we get to see most of them in this book, as UG plays a pretty big role. 

The tension that has been building up with the Aegis comes to a surprising head ~ and once again Reaver tries to take over the story.  Love that Angel, can't WAIT to get his book.  But I digress ~ the fate of the world hinges on the 3 Horsemen finding and taking out the 4th, their brother Reseph, or as he's now known, Pestilence.  I'm not going to go into this alot, as it's hard to w/out giving spoilers, but I'll say I was surprised, saddened, and surprised again by where this story lines takes us...and pleased w/ how Than made choices involving Regan and his unborn son. 

AND just so you know...she totally leaves us hanging for the next book!
And I can't WAIT!!

On The Prowl by Christine Warren ~~

On The Prowl by Christine Warren IS part of her "Others" series, which is a series I've been following since way back in it's Ellora's Cave days ~ she's now going back and updating and rereleasing those EC books as MM w/ her current publisher. 

I was at first thrown by On The Prowl ~it clearly goes back in the Others timeline to during the EC books, which were like the first 6 Others books, but I don't recall this story line ~ a friend told me it was a EC redo, but I don't believe it is.  I think she took advantage of where she is currently in the MM release of her stories and added this in ~ I just want to be clear, because when I first started reading it there were a few WTF moments because of things that occured, that if it had been up to date w/ Wolf at The Door and those books wouldn't have made sense.  But if you go in knowing where it falls, it's all good! : > )

Saskia Arcos and Nicolas Preda are members of the Tiguri ~ an old prestigious line of Tiger shifters that until now has mostly avoided the US.  But the Preda and Arcos streaks have brought their buisnesses and families to NY ~ their intentions where the Coucil of Others are concerned are not clear, however it IS clear that with the arranged marriage of Saskia and Nic they plan creating the strongest streak of remaining Tiguri, and establishing their line here, in the US.

Saskia has no problem w/ an arranged marriage ~ she's been raised and bred for it, and truth to tell, she's thrilled to get Nic.  People and other Other clans just don't get that this how the Tiguri do things...but she and Nic get it, and that's all that matters.  But things are actually done a little backwards ~ the engagement is announced, and this is the first time Nic and Saskia have seen each other in years, then they go to their new home together where they will consumate their engagement ~ but they won't become 'mates' or married until Saskia is a proven breeder and shows she can successfully carry and give birth to a live child. 

Saskia is nervous but thrilled to be w/ Nic...but devastated and worried when he is called out during their engagement night and STILL hasn't returned the next morning.  She decides the only way she is going to find out anything is to take matters into her own hands and do a little digging, which is NOT the Tiguri way...

I really, really enjoyed this book ~ once Saskia found her backbone and decided she wasn't just going to lay down for Nic things got fun, funny and flew by.  She STILL wanted the arranged marriage, and she still wanted to be Tiguri, she just wanted Nic to respect her enough to share things w/ her, and to respect her opinion and advice...and the lessons she gives him getting it through his hard head is so much fun!  I loved seeing characters from many of the older stories, like Graham & Missy, Rafe, Dmitri....and visiting Vircolac.  I love this world!  And Ms. Warren always delivers on the humor and turns a cute story. 

I will say you could pick this book and read it stand alone ~ you do see characters from other books, but if you haven't read any of the others, it won't hinder this story in any way.  It is so lightly connected through characters alone you wouldn't be lost at all ~ you'll be dying to read about all those hotties by the end, though!  <BG>
